It's simple!  Create a Gift List and a People List:

Gift List - add items for each Event you are celebrating.

Create a Gift List for any Event - your Birthday, Christmas,
Mother’s Day, or you can even create your own Custom Event.

People List - add people who you exchange gifts with.

This would include family, friends, relatives, etc.
You can select which people you want for which Event.

The people on the People List are notified that you have a Gift List and that they can use it to help them get you a gift that you want.
You can send notifications about your Gift List anytime to the people included for that Event or have it done automatically which sends out notifications 5 weeks before the Event.

Your Gift List is private to only the people on your People List.
The people viewing your Gift List can then Reserve an item.
Once an item is Reserved by a person it is no longer available
or visible to anyone else viewing that Gift List for that Event.
You can assign what people you want for each Event:
For example: for Christmas you would probably select most
of the people and for Valentine’s Day just one person.
